As we all know it’s an extremely strange, crazy, and honestly frightening time in our world right now. The COVID-19 pandemic has led to the whole world going into lockdown and practicing social distancing. The pandemic has also meant that me, and many others, have had to celebrate our birthday’s indoors with little to no people. Being the birthday obsessed girl that I am, I was determined to make celebrating my twenty-sixth year one to remember.
One of the best birthday presents this year was being able to fly back to California, which meant that I would get to celebrate my birthday with my lovely parents instead of alone in my New York City apartment. Although I’d be missing out on celebrating my first birthday in New York, I knew that I wanted a piece of the city to be part of my day, so I shipped myself my favorite desserts from the famous NYC bakery Milk Bar (P.S. The Crack Pie and Corn Cookies are a major weakness of mine).
Along with Milk Bar, my parents also got me takeout from my favorite restaurant, Happi House! I had been craving a meal from this local gem for two months (I use to go once a week before moving across the country) so as you can probably expect, I was more than thrilled.
My birthday celebration continued into the evening with my dad cooking my favorite Italian dinner, paired with a chilled Chardonnay…of course, and my mom making the same ice cream cake that I’ve been celebrating my birthday with for the past fourteen years. If all of that wasn’t enough to make a girl happy, my grandma also surprised me with a sweet gift and my family gifted me with a Cuyana bag that I had been eyeing for a while.
I think it’s very important, now more than ever, to make the most out of the situation you’re in. Of course, it would have been nice to celebrate my birthday doing something exciting but instead, I got the chance to celebrate in the most meaningful way possible. At home, celebrating with my parents, surrounded by all of my favorite things.
