It’s not a great characteristic of mine, but I have the hardest time eating enough vegetables and fruits. So much so that a couple of years ago my doctor made me start drinking a green grass powder called Green Superfood by Amazing Grass. You can check out all the benefits on their site, but the one that stuck out to me the most was that one scoop equals TWO full servings of veggies and fruits. For a girl who can’t find a way to eat enough vegetables and fruits, this was the answer to nutrition needs. (Pro Tip: This green superfood can be purchased at Whole Foods, Amazon, Target and other nutrition-based stores)
A bit of a fair warning before I go on to tell you what smoothie recipes I blend the green superfood into. When you open the jar and go to add your scoop into whatever it is you’re adding it to, the powder will smell like you just cut your lawn. It’s kind of gross, but it is grass powder so I guess it’s also kind of expected. Anywho, the following are two smoothie recipes that I never get tired of drinking.
Orange Dream
My favorite Jamba Juice smoothie is Orange Dream Machine and this recipe tastes exactly like it just way healthier.
INGREDIENTS
- 1/2 cup orange juice
- 1/2 cup vanilla soy milk (or any other vanilla flavored dairy substitute)
- 2 orange cuties (peeled extremely well)
- 1 banana
- 1 scoop of green superfood
- 5 ice cubes
DIRECTIONS
Pour all the ingredients into any type of blender and blend until everything is mixed together. I will say that this smoothie isn’t as thick as others so I just blend it until all the ice has disappeared. Once done pour into a cup and enjoy! (Pro Tip: This recipe makes enough to fill a venti size tumbler)
Berry Bliss
I’ve found that berries are the perfect way to hide the taste of vegetables when it comes to smoothies, which is why this is one of my go-to recipes.
INGREDIENTS
- 1/2 cup orange juice
- 1/4 cup frozen berries (I use the assorted mix)
- 1 banana
- 1/4 cup frozen pineapple
- 1 scoop of green superfood
- 1 vanilla greek yogurt
DIRECTIONS
Place all the ingredients inside a blender (I love making this one in my Magic Bullet) and blend until all ingredients are fully combined. This smoothie is very thick so you might have to stop in the middle of blending and stir around the ingredients a bit. You can also add in a bit more juice if you so desire. Cheers to drinking veggies without even knowing you are.
